Activities.

The northern lights aren't a holiday on their own. The days, too, are spent on the snow.

While you wait for the night sky, don't let the days go empty. Activities tried over the years, and worth it:

  • Husky (dog) sledding — 2–4 hours · €100–250.
  • Snowshoe hiking — a day tour · ~€80.
  • Visiting the ice hotel — Jukkasjärvi, Sweden.
  • Luxury-car winter testing — Arvidsjaur; open to all, free to watch.

×Corrected · 2025·current prices2025 prices: husky 3 hours €220–320, half-day €380–500. Snowshoe day tour €110–140. After the pandemic, operators raised prices 50–80% to catch up to the margins they'd missed.

+Added · 2024·Sámi culture toursHonest tours where the Sápmi people share their culture directly have grown in recent years: visiting a reindeer farm, coffee in a lavvu tent, listening to yoik. Prefer Visit Sápmi-certified operators — the income goes straight to the Indigenous community, and you avoid the “Disney Sami” traps.+Added · February 2025·Northern Lights CruiseHurtigruten and Havila's Bergen–Kirkenes line offer a “see no aurora, get an extra night free” guarantee. The ship's deck is fully dark; you watch the curtain from your bed and get up — this is the answer to how aurora can be done without freezing.
